Garage Rock
The group was hard to miss with their big hair and electric blue flashing light suits. They were a psychedelic rock band that formed in 1964 in the Bronx, New York. Group members changed over the years, but for this track they were Ralph Scala (keyboards, vocals), Emil “Peppy” Theilhelm aka “Peppy” Castro (guitar, vocals), Ron Gilbert (bass), Mike Esposito (guitar), and Geoff Daking (drums & percussion).
The song was written by Michael Esposito, Ron Gilbert, Ralph Scala, and Emil Theilhelm . It went to #5 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1966. It was on their album Psychedelic Lollipop and also released as a single with “Gotta Get Away.” It was their only really big commercial success. “(We Ain’t Got) Nothin’ Yet” was featured in the 1968 film Easy Rider. The bass riff and organ part made it a popular song with those kids who formed their own band. The British band The Spectres covered the song in 1967. The band continues to tour and perform.
