Deon Jackson’s Love Makes the World Go Round

Deon Jackson Love Makes the World Go Round

Northern Soul

There are lots of songs with the title, but here’s the one by Deon Jackson. Jackson’s song “Love Makes the World go Round” was a hit in 1966, going to #11 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and #3 on the R&B chart. Although Jackson toured in the club circuit and had national success with other songs, including “Love Takes  a Long Time Growing” (1966) and “Ooh Baby” (1967), he was most popular in the Chicago area and midwest region (not to mention the Southeastern Beach Music scene). He has also been popular in the U.K. with Northern Soul fans. U.K. artist Kiki Dee had a successfully charting cover of Jackson’s “Love Makes the World Go Round.”

Here are the lyrics to “Love Makes the World Go Round” by Deon Jackson:

“You know, love makes the world go ’round
And love, baby, make the seesaws go up and down
And it makes the trees grow tall
And the most important thing of all
It makes a boy and girl, oh, say they feel so fine, now (feel so fine)

Without love, flowers wouldn’t grow in spring
And without spring, yeah, the birdies just couldn’t sing
Yeah, yeah, everybody needs love and to watch the twinkling stars above
It makes a boy and girl, yeah, say they feel so fine, now (feel so fine), yeah

Whoa, everybody needs love just to watch the twinkling stars above
It makes a boy and girl, yeah, say they feel so fine, now (feel so fine)
Oh, love make you cry, now
That goes for Billy, Sherry, Bobby, and Marsha, baby, you and I
Oh, I can prove to you that these facts of love are so true
It makes a boy and girl, yeah, say they feel so fine, now (feel so fine)

Love, love, sweet love

Love is so good, child
Oo, It’s so fine, ooo”
